METHOD STATEMENT FOR BUILDING WIRES INSTALLATION

1.0. PURPOSE

This Method Statement covers installations of PVC single-core insulated wires defined by the Specifications.

2.0. SCOPE OF WORK

This procedure defines the method to be used to ensure that building wire installations are correct and acceptable and conform to the specifications.

5.0. SAFETY

General HS&E statement:

5.1. All safety precautions shall be followed as per the approved safety plan & procedure. Ensure all involved persons are aware of the same.

5.2. Safety Officer to ensure that all working platforms and ladders shall be safe and in good condition.

5.3. Ensure that all tradesmen shall leave their working places clean, tidy and free of rubbish.

6.0. STORAGE

6.1. Building wires shall be stored in a clean and dry area.

6.2. Building wires shall be stacked in one area. Sizes and Colors shall be segregated from each other.

6.3. Building wires shall be properly protected.

7.0. PRE-INSTALLATION

7.1. All materials and documentation relevant to this particular section of works will be checked by the Construction Department before the commencement of works ensuring that these are approved and correct type.

7.2. Before any permanent works will proceed, pre-inspection on access for installation to be carried out by the concerned staff.

7.3. Ensure that proper access to execute the works is in a suitable condition and free from obstruction.

7.4. Check the tools to be used for wire pulling such as ladders, wires, and scaffoldings are available in site and in good conditions.

8.0. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

It is presumed that conduits and trunking installation have been completed before starting this work.

8.1. Clear boxes from any foreign materials.

8.2. Check all embedded conduits from blockage. If there are blockages, clear the blockages before start pulling the wires.

8.3. Provision of pull boxes shall be provided whenever the route of the wires exceeds more than 2 consecutive 90-degree bends.

8.4. Scaffoldings and Ladders to be used during installation shall be erected properly to ensure the safety of people working on it.

8.5. Prepare wires for pulling. Make sure that the wires are properly marked.

8.6. Pull wires on the conduits and trunking. Proper care shall be exercised when pulling the wires. Only approved pulling compound to be used if required. When there are more than one conductor is used for phase, each phase, and neutral ground wires shall be run in the same conduit. Wires shall be continuous from outlet to outlet and no splices shall be made except within the outlets or junction boxes. Different phases shall not be drawn in one conduit.

8.7. Connect the wires in the outlet boxes using plastic connectors to ensure the continuity of wires during testing. Ensure the connection is correct. Continuity test shall be conducted in the presence of Consultant for their acceptance using a Multi-meter.

8.8. A space factor of 35 per cent shall be provided in the trunking.

9.0. INSPECTION

After the installation of power cables in a certain area, a request for inspection shall be raised for the consultant's approval.
