Control Measures
Slingers and banksman to be fully trained and have the necessary certification.
Method statement to assess the method of slinging of pile shoes and wire rope slings for lifting AZ-type sheet piles).
Pre-inspections of Lifting Gear are to be recorded on daily inspection sheets
Only use lifting gear which is correct for the job.
Lifting gear is to be inspected by the slinger/banksman before the start of the day's work, if damaged then the lifting gear is to be replaced.
Required SWL of lifting gear to be identified within the lifting plan and operatives briefed.
Correct lengths of chains are to be addressed within the lift plan to ensure the angle of lifting chains is not less than 45 degrees when being used.
Pre-inspections of Lifting Gear are to be recorded on daily inspection sheets
All delivery vehicles must have a fall prevention system fitted to the bed of the trailer before arrival on-site
Short trailer access/footed ladder to be used for operatives to access on and off the lorry.
