Control Measures
1. Hot works permit to be issued before commencement
2. All personnel not directly involved should be kept clear of operation (barriers to be erected by the Main Contractor)
3. Suitable PPE must be worn i.e. safety boots, gauntlets or gloves (not rubber), burning goggles, safety helmet, mask, and flame retardant overalls.
4. Mechanical soundness of welding equipment should be checked before use. Ensure the welding machine is properly earthed.
5. Welding area should be kept clean and dry.
6. Welding to be carried out by competent persons.
7. Hi-Viz vests are to be removed during burning operations due to increased fire risk (flame retardant overalls to have hi-viz bands) **Hi-viz to be re-worn as soon as the welding operation is completed**
8. CO2 Fire extinguishers on site (in date and at the place of work).
9. Welding operatives must wear full-face welding masks during welding operations.
10. Screens to be used wherever practicable.
11. Any other personnel near the welding operation must avoid direct visual contact with the welding (Screen to be erected during welding, positioned where practicable).
12. Welding to be carried out by competent persons.
13. Welders to wear vented/air-fed masks when stoving/ clutch welding in enclosed work areas
14. Ensure the welding area is free from flammable materials.
15. Welding to be carried out by competent persons.
16. CO2 Fire extinguishers to be available.
