Control Measures
1. Only certificated lifting gear is to be used,
2. Lifting gear is to be checked by a slinger/signaler.
3. CPCS-qualified slinger signaler to be used.
4. When slinging the load, check chains for positioning and load slightly lifted to check balance is correct before the main lift.
5. Loading/offloading should only take place where safe to do so.
6. Safe Working Load of lifting appliances and lifting tackle must never be exceeded.
7. Only slingers to sling loads.
8. Only bank man to give instructions to crane or rig operators.
9. Keep hands and feet clear of load during lifting or lowering operations.
10. Always wear helmets, gloves, high visibility vests, and safety boots during these operations.
11. Suitable size packers must be used below each load when lowering off.
12. When lifting steelwork with the rig, the safety chain, and chain lock must be securely fixed and checked before the lift.
13. Lifting equipment is to be checked regularly for wear and tear and replaced as required.
14. Ensure the slinger inspects connections before lifting.
15. Exclusion Zone to be in place. Only essential personnel to enter. Once load slung all personnel exit the exclusion zone
16. Pre-inspections of Lifting Gear are to be recorded on daily inspection sheets
