Control Measures
1. Operatives to wear lifejackets or flotation suits at all times.
2. Physical barrier around the working area.
3. Ensure adequate working platforms are erected, and fully decked out.
4. Ensure safety harnesses are available for emergencies.
5. Access pontoon to ferry personnel to piling line where necessary, also to act as rescue boat
where necessary. (Boat to be fully equipped for rescue.)
7. In tidal waters and for nightwork, rescue boats should be manned continuously by experienced boatmen equipped with 2-way communication to the shore.
8. Life rings to be situated on the bank and on the Piling
9. Frame complete with 30-meter lifelines.
10. Ensure lighting is adequate for night work if required.
11. If working from pontoons ensure that they are properly loaded, stable, water-tight, and securely moored.
12. Ensure all walking surfaces are clean and do not become slippery.
13. Never allow men to work alone.
14. Ensure good housekeeping and site tidiness to minimize tripping hazards.
15. Check weather conditions.
