HSE DOCUMENTS-RISK ASSESSMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF SAND TRAP SCREEN AT HEIGHTS

HSE DOCUMENTS-RISK ASSESSMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF SAND TRAP SCREEN AT HEIGHTS

1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this risk assessment for the Installation Sand Trap Screen is to identify and evaluate potential hazards related to the installation of a sand trap screen at elevated heights. This safety methodology document is written to make sure that the safety of all workers working on the project are working safely with the aim of zero harm.

2.0 Scope

This risk assessment covers the activities related to the installation of a sand trap screen on an elevated platform. It includes the identification of hazards, risk evaluation, and implementation of control measures to mitigate these risks.

3.0 Hazards Identification

The following hazards have been identified for this project:

3.1. Falling Hazards:

3.1.1. Workers falling from the elevated platform.

3.1.2. Materials or tools falling from the platform.

3.2. Structural Integrity:

3.2.1. The stability of the platform may be compromised.

3.2.2. Failure of equipment or materials used in the installation.

3.3. Manual Handling:

3.3.1. Lifting and carrying heavy equipment or materials.

3.4. Environmental Factors:

3.4.1. Adverse weather conditions, such as strong winds or rain.

3.5. Working at Heights:

3.4.2. Working at elevated heights poses a risk of falling.

3.6. Machinery and Equipment:

3.4.3. Use of machinery and tools for installation.

3.7. Electrical Hazards:

3.4.4. Electrical tools and wiring in the vicinity.

4.0 Risk Evaluation:

Based on the hazards identified, the following risk levels have been assessed:

High Risk: Falling hazards, structural integrity, working at heights.

Moderate Risk: Manual handling, machinery, and equipment.

Low Risk: Environmental factors, electrical hazards.

5.0 Control Measures:

To mitigate the identified risks, the following control measures will be implemented:

5.1. Fall Protection:

5.1.1. Use of personal fall arrest systems (harnesses, lanyards).

5.1.2. Installation of guardrails or safety nets around the work area.

5.2. Structural Inspection:

5.1.3. Before installation, a structural engineer will assess the platform's integrity and load-bearing capacity.

5.3. Manual Handling:

5.1.4. Use of mechanical aids (hoists, cranes) for heavy lifting.

5.1.5. Proper training for manual handling techniques.

5.4. Weather Monitoring:

5.1.6. Regular monitoring of weather conditions.

5.1.7. Temporary suspension of work during adverse weather.

5.5. Working at Heights Training:

5.1.8. All personnel involved in the project must undergo working at heights training.

5.6. Machinery and Equipment:

5.1.9. Regular maintenance and inspection of machinery.

5.1.10. Proper training for equipment operators.

5.7. Electrical Safety:

5.1.11. Ensure all electrical equipment is properly grounded.

5.1.12. Use of GFCIs (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters).

6.0 Emergency Response Plan:

6.1. Establish a clear communication plan.

6.2. Have first aid kits and fire extinguishers readily available.

6.3. Evacuation procedures in case of emergencies.

7.0 Review and Revision:

7.1. This risk assessment will be periodically reviewed and revised as necessary to address any changing conditions or new hazards that may arise during the project.
