1.0. OBJECTIVE

The objective of this method statement is to define the inspection activities for bending, and fixing and to provide general guidelines for rebar.


2.0. SCOPE

This method statement covers the activities relating to testing, inspection, and placing of rebars before pouring concrete at all project sites.

5.0. RESPONSIBILITIES

The construction Manager shall be responsible for the implementation of this method statement.


6.0. PROCEDURE

6.1. Quality Inspection Plan (QIP) specific to project requirements shall be made and inspection activities shall be recorded either in the formats as given under “Related Documents” or those supplied by custthe omer.

6.2. Ensure that only tested/approved grade steel bars are used. (Rebar must be tested as per project specifications at source before shipment to site).

6.3. Rebar shall be free from loose mill scale and any surface rust before placement in position.

6.4. Cutting and bending of rebar shall be carried out as per the approved bar bending schedule, use Doc. [Reference No. Here].

6.5. Binding wire shall be free from rust & conform to the project specifications.

6.6. Cut lengths shall be grouped according to their mark numbers by putting tags for identification and shifting them from the steel yard to the site.

6.7. Rebar spacing shall be marked with chalk according to the drawings.

6.8. The Rebar network shall be properly fixed with a binding wire.

6.9. Chairs shall be provided at proper intervals to support the rebar network.

6.10. Spacer blocks of cement mortar of the same size shall be used as mentioned, as clear cover to reinforcement in construction drawing/specifications. These blocks shall be placed at the bottom and to the sides where necessary.

6.11. Lap lengths shall be provided as per drawing/specifications,.

6.12. In case of non-conformity at any stage of inspection the segregation shall be covered by method statement Use Doc. [Reference No. Here] and Corrective Action Request (CAR) shall be raised as per standard operating procedure Use Doc. [Reference No. Here].


7.0. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

8.0. HSE INSTRUCTIONS

8.1. Cuts, punctures & abrasions are the typical hazards of Rebar wire mesh & tie wires.

8.2. Foot, hand, head & eye protections are required during cutting & bending rebars.

8.3. Never get in a position to be caught between, under, or against loads.

8.4. Always wear gloves for handling Rebar & take care of people working around.

8.5. The operator for the bar-bending machine should be trained.

8.6. No trash, rapes, shopping bags, papers, cans, bottles, or any other litter should be left in the open.

8.7. Keep your environment clean.
