HSE DOCUMENTS-METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF CHILLED WATER PUMPS

HSE DOCUMENTS-METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF CHILLED WATER PUMPS

1.0 Scope of Work

This method statement document uploaded by HSE Documents provides the technical information and applies to the installation of Chilled Water Pumps (CWP) and associated valve packages.

2.0 Purpose of the Statement Methodology

The purpose of this methodology and procedural document is to highlight the method of storage, handling, and installation of Chilled Water Pumps (CWP) and valve packages.

3.0 Material

3.1. The pump and motor are assembled on a common base frame, coupled using a proper coupling arrangement by the manufacturer.

3.2. The Isolation valves, strainers, Non-Return valves (NRV), flexible connectors, and piping accessories as per approved material submittals.

3.3. The Pump foundation is as per the approved drawings.

4.0 Methodology

4.1. Receiving of Material

4.1.1. When the material is at the site, each pump shall be checked very closely and technically for various information and data such as quantities, model number, physical damages, etc., and at the same time notify the supplier of any mismatch or for suitable rectification or material replacement.

4.1.2. Valves and other accessories shall be checked for size, model, and quantity. Receiving inspection shall be conducted by the storekeeper, Project Engineer (PE), and Quality Control (QCE) Engineer, which shall be documented and recorded properly.

4.1.3. Valves shall be segregated as per sizes/models and stored on racks within a covered store.

4.1.4. Any incompatible or improper material or part of the unit suitable as per the project requirements shall be cordoned off. Non-compliant material shall be marked documented and stored separately to prevent any accidental use until returned to the vendor.

4.2. Storage

4.2.1. Upon accomplishment of receiving Quality control (QC) inspection, the pumps will be separated and quarantined model/size-wise and stored accordingly for easy retrieval.

4.2.2. The Pumps shall be stored on a flat and well-balanced surface in well well-ventilated and covered storage area appropriately.

4.2.3. Inlet and outlet flange blanks shall not be removed until ready to use for the proper connection to pipe work.

4.2.4. The manufacturer’s instructions shall be strictly followed as applicable.

4.2.5. If the pumps are stored for longer periods the shaft shall be periodically rotated.

4.3. Preparation

4.3.1. The foundations developed and made for the vibration and sound control requirements shall be provided by my primary Contractor. Inertia bases will be supplied along with a vibration isolator mechanism and installation.

4.3.2. Further carefully examine, check, and make sure that the shop drawings used are latest and approved for construction purposes.

4.3.3. [The installation contractor or company] will coordinate the location of the foundation as per approved shop drawings accordingly.

4.3.4. Coordinate with the primary contractor to make sure that the foundations/concrete filling to inertia bases are made as per approved shop drawings accordingly.

4.3.5. The foundation surface shall be well balanced, flat, and level, and smoothly finished top surface.

4.3.6. Properly examine, and check coordination with other services before the installation work.

4.3.7. Check the piping support locations and cable tray routing locations in coordination with the pump and piping layout and ensure they are not obstructing the space around the pump.

4.3.8. Ensure easy access and sufficient clearance for servicing and maintenance i.e., for replacement of pump, motor, cleaning of strainer, valves, etc.

4.4. Installation

4.4.1. Mark the locations of the pump base frame.

4.4.2. Install the inertia base/pumps as per shop drawings.

4.4.3. Shift the pumps to the place of installation in a safe manner. Use hand trolley/folk lift/crane as applicable/required as per site conditions.

4.4.4. Alignment of coupling arrangement between motor and pumps, after pump installation work, shall be rechecked accurately and as per the manufacturer’s recommendations and guidelines by the pump supplier before testing.

4.4.5. Make sure that the proper coupling guards are provided, where applicable.

4.4.6. Complete the piping and valve package installation as per approved drawings. Remove the end caps adjusted on the inlet and outlet flanges.

4.4.7. Install the Electrical Power Connections (EPC) as per approved drawings and continuity test.

4.4.8. Provide grounding wiring as per approved drawings/manufacturer instructions and guidelines.

4.4.9. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions while installing the pump.

5.0 Inspection

5.1. After completion of pump installation and piping connections, Quality Control (QC) inspection shall be accomplished as per the pump installation checklist.

5.2. “Work Inspection Request” shall be raised for the consultant’s inspection.

6.0 Health and Safety

6.0. All safety precautions shall be followed as per the established project safety plan and procedure.

6.1. Only experienced and skilled technicians shall be engaged to carry out pump installation work.

6.2. The people involved in the installation shall use PPE such as safety helmets, safety shoes, harnesses, gloves, etc., as required.

6.3. The safety officer shall check and ensure that all safety precautions are followed.

6.4. The safety officer shall check and ensure that all scaffolding and ladders used at the site have duly signed tags.
